WHAT TO DO IN EDINBURGH

If it's happening, it's happening here - and don't just take our word for it. It's not long since Britain's Observer newspaper found that Edinburgh was one of the very few cities in the country which could really claim to be alive for 24 hours a day.
There's so much to choose between, from mountain biking or more leisurely countryside pursuits, to the thrills of the city. You can pick where to eat and what to do at almost any time of day - from a fantastic selection of venues covering the arts and music and all the touristy things you could ever want to do, to clubs and pubs and cafes, open from the early hours until, well, the early hours!
Edinburgh and Lothian Tourist Board have a comprehensive list of attractions, tours, places to eat out and entertainment at http://www.edinburgh.org.

From the controversial new Scottish Parliament(visit http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/home) to Princes Street, one of Scotland's best known shopping street, delegates or their partners will find many things jostling for their attention should they decide to stay on. From the point of view of shopping, Edinburgh's Multree Walk boasts the new Harvey Nichols, while Ocean Terminal, in Leith, is the city's latest designer shopping mall.

If you want to remain on the nautical theme, nip round the corner to Britannia, which is resting elegantly by the quayside and inspect the Queen's once favoured former royal yacht. Visit http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk for more details.

If you want to stretch your brain, not your wallet, Dynamic Earth, opposite the new Parliament, is also worth a visit, particularly for its indoor recreation of both the Polar regions and the rainforest. See http://www.dynamicearth.co.uk for more information.

The Lonely Planet website profiles Edinburgh and gives a very comprehensive look at the area, visit http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/europe/edinburgh/
