At a special gala industry awards dinner at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Edinburgh on Wednesday 18 April it was announced that Michael Laurenson of Blueshell Mussels has won the Aquaculture Today 2007 Fit for the Future Award for work in the shellfish sector.

Michael, also chairman of SSMG, told Aquaculture Today: “We are very pleased to have won this award. The standard was very high and we weren’t expecting to win, but it is nice to be recognised within the industry for all the work that we do, both here at Blueshell Mussels and at the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group.”

"We've had an extremely busy past few years so it's a great credit to the dedication and hard work of our team who deserve equal recognition for their commitment in growing the business."

Donny Gillies, SSMG managing director, said: “It’s great news that Blueshell Mussels has won this top award, not only for Michael and his team, but for all of our members in the co-operative as well.”

“As the current boom in mussels we are seeing continues, new installations like the one at Blueshell Mussels help to expand and increase the ranges of products we are able to offer.”
