2005 CONFERENCE REVIEW

The inaugural Aquaculture Today conference took place in Edinburgh on 13 and 14 April 2005. Over 200 delegates enjoyed a comprehensive programme of presentations over 4 sessions: Aquaculture and the Environment, Aquatic Animal Health, Regulation and Aquaculture and Aquaculture Markets. The programme was punctuated with useful networking opportunities and the chance to peruse trade exhibits. The conference also included a social programme, featuring a welcome drinks reception and gala dinner, allowing for informal networking and relationship building.

Speakers, representing the UK and Europe, including representatives from key trade organisations, the Scottish Executive and European Union, shared their views with our delegates.

Over 80% of delegates responding to a post-conference opinion survey found the conference to be very useful or essential. Over 80% found the conference themes to be either interesting or very interesting. An integrated workshop, running parallel to the final session was also well received. All presentations within the sessions were considered satisfactory or more than satisfactory with 91% of delegates finding them good or excellent.

With such a positive response to the conference in 2005, we are now planning to run the conference annually. The next Aquaculture Today will be held in the Sheraton Grand, Edinburgh from 28 to 30 March 2006. Book for 2006 now.
